This detailed replica of a so-called strap connector from the Viking Age is based on an original from Gotland and dates from the 11th century.

Strap spreaders were widespread during the Viking Age and can be found in Birka and on Gotland as well as in Russia and other Viking settlements. Link to the historical model...

In the Viking Age, strap distributors were used to connect the individual straps of the sword hanger or the suspension for the sax and ensured that they hung at the optimum angle on the belt, ready to hand.

However, this bronze fitting was not only used to connect straps, but as a find shows, it was also used as a suspension for knife scabbards.

The Gotland strap connector has the following dimensions: 3.5 x 1.8 cm.
Made of high-quality bronze or in real silver plated.

The fitting is suitable for straps of 3 - 4 mm thickness. Double-headed rivets for fastening are included.
