The medieval badge shows a pig playing a bagpipe, like a minstrel.

The medieval badge "Pig with bagpipes" is made of high-quality bronze and real silver-plated. There is a sturdy pin on the back so that the badge can also be used as a brooch.


There are a number of medieval depictions of bagpipers in pig form, most of which date from fourteenth and fifteenth century England. What exactly links the bagpipes to the pig is not entirely certain. Both bagpipes and sows were associated with sexual sin in the Middle Ages.

The shape of the instrument (bag and pipe) can certainly be interpreted as phallic. But possibly there is also a mental connection between the shrill sound of the bagpipe and that of a squealing pig.
