Hand forged Viking bowl lamp of iron.

This hand-forged bowl lamp was inspired from the iron Viking lamp from the ship burial at Oseberg in Norway.

The Viking bowl lamp is forged from iron and has a long spout that is simply placed on a stick driven into the ground at any height.

The original Oseberg lamp had a bowl measuring 15.5 x 6 cm and dates back to the Viking Age of the 9th century AD. It was fitted with a 44 cm long metal spike. However, this is quite bulky and unwieldy and is difficult to transport.

The original Oseberg lamp was also fixed in height and therefore not as versatile as a lamp on a wooden stick, which can be procured anywhere and in any length.

The "Oseberg" Viking bowl lamp is 18 high. The bowl measures 14 x 4 cm.
The spout has a width of 3 cm at the base.

Viking Age bowl lamps of the Oseberg lamp type can be lit very well with leftover wax, to which you simply add a few small pieces of wood or, even better, a piece of dried tinder fungus as a wick. Twisted cotton strips or old burlap can also be used as a wick. To extinguish the fire, simply place a wooden board on top of the bowl lamp so that the flames go out.

Of course, this Viking bowl lamp also works with paraffin, lamp oil, beeswax or tallow.
