Fire starter kit for making fire like in the Middle Ages.

Here you can buy a fire-making kit with early medieval fire steel, flint and instructions for making tinder.

The curved shape of the fire steel is typical of the early Middle Ages and was also quite common among the Vikings and Slavs. The fire steel is made of carbon steel and produces sparks easily.

The medieval fire-making kit comes with a flint stone, which is great for creating sparks, as well as instructions for making tinder in German and English.

Fire making like in the early Middle Ages: With a little practice, anyone can start a fire with a fire steel, flint and dry tinder.

To make a fire like our ancestors, you simply strike a fire steel against the sharp edge of a flint stone, which creates a few delicate sparks that quickly jump to the tinder. To do this, hold the tinder as close to the edge of the stone as possible.

Once the tinder has been made to glow, you can easily create a delicate flame by blowing steadily and carefully, adding more tinder as quickly as possible, for which rotten wood fibres, birch paper or thin pine shavings are well suited.
