Viking Age bags with Magyar Tarsoly metal fittings are not only known from the eastern regions like Ukraine and Russia, but were also found in the Viking settlement Birka in eastern Sweden. It is assumed that the origin of these special Viking pouches lies with the nomadic equestrian peoples of the Magyars, where such so-called Tarsoly bags were very common as part of the traditional costume. Due to the extensive trade journeys of the Eastern Vikings from the 8th to the 10th century, these Magyar belt pouches reached Scandinavia via the great rivers from the Eastern steppes. Characteristic for the Magyar Viking belt pouches was a lyra-like design and rich metal fittings, so-called tarsoly, on the pouch flap.Show lessRetailers for LARP or medieval re-enactment are welcome to register for our medieval wholesale store.
