The medieval cross of Nevern as a pendant.
This beautifully shaped medieval pendant is modelled on the 10th-11th century Norman stone cross in Nevern, Wales.
Especially in the originally Celtic areas such as Wales and Ireland, stone crosses like the Cross of Nevern were widespread and can still be admired in numerous Christian sites such as churches and monasteries.
Often these stone crosses were richly decorated with Celtic stone carvings.
The Cross of Nevern pendant measures 4.5 x 4.5 cm.
The cross pendant is made of cast zinc alloy in the colours brass and silver.
A 2 mm thick, black cotton ribbon in 1 m length for the amulet is included.
The stone cross of Nevern is dated to the late 10th or early 11th century and is found in the churchyard of the Norman church of St Brynach in Wales. Stylistically, the Cross of Nevern is closely related to the Cross of Carew. The front of the cross is emblazoned with the Latin inscription: H / AN / EH and on the back DNS. The meaning of the first is unclear, but DNS probably stands as an abbreviated form for Dominus (Lord).
