Hinges were not only used in the Middle Ages, already in Roman times caskets were provided with forged hinges made of iron. Also, the sea chests of the Vikings were equipped with forged hinges made of iron to secure belongings.
Of course, heavy oak chests with solid forged hinges were also found in medieval churches to secure church treasures such as crucifix, candlesticks and communion chalice or the church book and other important documents in troubled times.
The medieval hinge is 3 mm thick and very solidly made and is ideal for building authentic chests in medieval re-enactment.
It has the dimensions 24 x 2.3 / 6.5 cm.
On both sides, the medieval hinge is provided with two holes, each with a diameter of 5 mm for fastening.
