Set for making fire like the Romans.
Here you can buy a complete set for making fire with a Roman fire steel, flint stone and tinder.
The curved shape of the fire steel is typical of Roman times and was forged from high-carbon steel, which is why it produces sparks very easily.
The Roman fire-making set comes with nitrided bulrush (cattail) tinder, which is very easy to make glow, and a flint, whose sharp edge makes it very easy to create sparks.
The fire making set includes:
Roman fire steel 8 x 3 cm.
1 grams of tinder
flint
Instructions for use in German and English.
Make fire like the Romans did: With fire steel, flint and dry tinder, it is easy to start a crackling fire with just a little practice.
As soon as you strike a sharp edge of a flint with a fire steel, small sparks are created that quickly jump to the tinder. The enclosed tinder is held as close as possible to the edge of the flint.
Once a spark has caused the tinder to glow, it must be fed as quickly as possible with more tinder, such as birch paper, rotten wood fibres or thin pine shavings, while blowing constantly and evenly.
