Hand-forged gambeson buckle made of iron.
This small iron buckle was used in the Middle Ages, e.g. for a gambeson or bridle or to connect the individual parts of the plate armour.
Such small, forged iron buckles are found
in large numbers in medieval finds, but they were also very common in the Viking Age, as finds from Haithabu show, for example.

The medieval gambeson buckle has a
rivet plate and is suitable for straps with a width of 2 cm.
Dimensions: 4.5 x 2.8 cm. A rivet for fastening is included.
Small iron buckles were used for
all kinds of purposes. But especially for the bridles of horses and cattle for field work or the medieval gambeson and plate armour, such small iron buckles were simply indispensable.
