Replica of a ringed pin made of iron.

This cloak pin is a replica of a so-called ringed pin from the Viking Age, based on an original find from the area of Rus around 900 AD.

The Viking ringed pin is forged and has a movable ring. The ring needle is guided vertically through the layers of fabric, the ring falling down to the front secures the needle by its weight.

A cord or band can also be attached to this ring to protect the ring needle from loss.

This type of cloak pin with a ring (Swedish: ringnål) was primarily a part of men's garments for the less well-off Viking in the Viking Age.

The forged ringed pin has the following dimensions:
Needle length 16 cm, ring diameter 2.8 cm.

The cloak of the Vikings basically consisted only of a rectangular piece of woollen fabric, which was closed with a brooch or a pin on the right shoulder and often even served as a blanket. The cloak was an indispensable piece of clothing and was worn among the Vikings by men and women alike. Brooches and ringed pins for closing the cloak are therefore found in very large numbers in the archeological finds from the Viking Age.
