Viking robe hook with granulation decoration.

This remarkable robe hook was modelled on a Viking pendant in granulation technique from grave BJ 943 in the Viking town of Birka / Sweden.

The original was made of silver with elaborate granulation, which was typical for Slavic jewellery at the time of the Vikings. Link to the original find...

In the granulated jewellery of the Viking Age, small beads and fine wires were soldered onto the jewellery in filigree work.
Our replica, on the other hand, is completely cast in one piece, whereby the filigree representation is magnificently expressed.

Rone hook dimensions: 4.9 x 1.9 cm.

This Viking robe hook is available in high-quality bronze and in genuine silver-plated.

Due to its light weight, the robe fastener is simply perfect as a robe hook for fastening tunics and dresses. Ideal for historical garments in larp and medieval re-enactment.

With needle and thread, the Viking robe hook can be easily sewn onto the robe with holes all around.

In the Viking Age, it was very common, especially in Slavic regions, to decorate necklaces, brooches and beads with an elaborate, filigree granulation decoration in the form of fine silver wires, strings of beads and spheres, whereby Slavic jewellery makers excellently understood how to produce small works of art in jewellery with the simplest of means.

The basis for the granulation decoration was a chased or cast basic form made of thin silver sheet, onto which the granulated decorative elements were then soldered, whereby the solder left no traces that could be seen by the eye, so that the filigree granulations appeared to float above the surface.
