Replica of a trefoil brooch from the Viking Age.

Here you can buy a faithfully crafted replica of an expressive trefoil brooch from the Viking Age, based on a find from Värnamo in Småland / Sweden.

This beautiful Viking jewellery is called a trefoil brooch because of its shape. This Viking Age brooch type was widespread throughout almost the entire Viking Age in the Nordic region as jewellery in women's garments. It was worn centrally on the chest.

Such trefoil brooches were also used to close a light cloak. Often chains or ribbons connected two oval brooches attached to the shoulders with the centrally placed fibula.

Even today, trefoil brooches are a decorative accessory for authentic women's garb in Viking reenactment.

You can buy the trefoil brooch from Värnamo in high-quality bronze or in genuine silver-plated.

On the back of the Viking trefoil brooch is a sturdy needle, which makes the brooch suitable for fastening strong fabrics. On the underside there is a small eyelet for attaching a chain, for example.

Dimensions: 5.8 x 5.8 cm.

The shape of the trefoil brooch originated from strap distributors which were looted from the Frankish Empire as part of Carolingian military harnesses and then converted into jewellery and brooches in Scandinavia.

Soon, however, this Viking jewellery was also made in the Nordic style according to the Vikings' own taste. As a typical component of Viking women's garments, trefoil brooches are found exclusively in women's graves.

The trefoil brooch was widespread as jewellery throughout almost the entire Viking Age and only gradually disappeared from Viking costume fashion towards the middle of the 10th century.
